You want your child to notice the needs of others and respond with care. Community service helps students put faith into practice and grow in responsibility.
Learning to serve like Christ
Your child can learn to see a need and take action. Following Christ’s example, students practice compassion and put others first through service in the San Francisco community. Serving gives them opportunities to grow in humility, empathy, and leadership.
Building a habit of service
Acts of service are encouraged in every grade. In high school, students complete at least 15 service hours each year, totaling 60 by graduation. Students who reach 100 hours or more receive the Silver Service Award at senior graduation.
The hours provide a structure for practicing service consistently as students grow.
Chick-fil-A Leader Academy
High school students can also join the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, a national leadership program built around serving others. Made possible by a local Chick-fil-A franchise, a small group of students meets monthly through the year and leads a spring service project. In the Academy’s first year at SFC, students packed backpacks for the Riley Center in Palo Alto.
Finding a way to contribute
Your student brings their own interests and gifts. Our college advisor helps them explore service opportunities that connect with those interests and future goals, such as volunteering at a shelter, tutoring younger students, or organizing donation drives.
