A first team
Your child does not need to be good at basketball to play elementary basketball. That is rather the point. They need to want to learn it, and to be willing to sit on a bench beside teammates while a coach explains something for the third time.
What they take away is bigger than the sport: how to lose a game and still shake a hand, how to cheer for the classmate who scored instead of the one who did not, and what it feels like to belong to something with a uniform.
- Basketball. The elementary team, coached and competing.
- Learning the game. Rules, practice, and a coach with patience.
- Being a teammate. Encouraging, waiting a turn, and playing fair.
- Active and enjoying it. Habits that make exercise something they choose.
