A first classroom made for four-year-olds

You want your child’s first year of school to feel safe and warm, and to get them ready for what comes next. Kindergarten Beginnings (KB) is our full-day class for four-year-olds, the first of SFC’s two kindergarten years.

Classes are small, 10 to 15 children, and your child’s teacher is Mrs. Pantoja.

The room is made to help a four-year-old feel welcome, secure, and loved. Children see their own artwork and projects displayed around the classroom, and they come to feel that the space is theirs and that they are real members of the class.

What your child learns

In KB, children are introduced to phonics, numbers, and printing. Bible is its own class from KB onward, and a Biblical worldview shapes how every subject is taught.

Art, music, show and tell, and field trips round out the week. Children also take on small responsibilities, such as being line leader, leading prayers, and passing out papers.

By the end of the year, your child is ready for Kindergarten. Over the year, KB children:

  • Learn every letter and its sound, then put sounds together to read short three-letter words, simple sentences, and their first little readers in the spring.
  • Hold a pencil correctly and write the letters Aa to Zz and the numbers on handwriting lines, then write word families such as cat, hat, and bat.
  • Recognize and count the numbers 1 to 20, count by tens, use order words from first to tenth, and compare which group has more.
  • Name colors and shapes, including solids such as cubes and cones, and sort, pattern, and graph with them.
  • Hear Bible stories from creation to the life of Jesus, learn memory verses, and praise God in songs and prayer.

A day in KB

School begins at 8:00 am and dismisses at 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

The day follows a steady routine. It opens with Bible, songs, and prayers, then moves through numbers and phonics with songs and actions, forming letters, story time, and games. Art, music, work time, and park time come before lunch. After lunch there is writing time, a nap, and play time before dismissal.

Joining KB

Your child must be four years old by December 1 of the school year to enter Kindergarten Beginnings. There is no admissions assessment for KB. You submit the application documents, meet with the administration for an interview, and then complete enrollment online.

Families already at SFC and siblings of current students receive enrollment priority. Once your child is enrolled, our Continuous Enrollment keeps them enrolled through graduation.

Start with a tour, then follow the steps to apply.

What comes next

KB leads straight into Kindergarten, with no readiness assessment. It is our full-day academic program for five-year-olds, where the phonics, numbers, and printing your child began here keep growing.
